For the Winter Season transformation of Words of Wonders, I focused on creating a serene yet visually striking atmosphere. As the Art Director and Lead Visual Designer, my role involved not only the technical execution of the environment but also the creative mentorship and direction of the UI assets.
Key highlights of this project:
Custom Aurora Borealis Effect: To achieve a dynamic and ethereal Northern Lights effect, I developed a custom solution within Unity using a blend of 2D hand-drawn assets and complex particle systems. This hybrid approach allowed for a unique, painterly motion that stays true to the game's aesthetic.
Advanced Background Composition: The winter landscape was crafted through an intricate photo manipulation of five separate images, meticulously blended to create a seamless, high-depth environment optimized for mobile screens.
Art Direction & Mentorship: While I personally designed the overall UI/UX layout, the button illustrations were created by my illustrator under my direct supervision. I provided the necessary training and artistic guidance to ensure the assets met our high-quality standards and stylistic consistency.
Technical Animation & VFX: Beyond the Aurora, all environmental animations and particle effects (such as snow and atmosphere) were built from scratch by me in Unity.
Unified Visual Language: Ensuring that the UI, VFX, and background work in perfect harmony to provide a premium seasonal experience for our players.
Tools used: Photoshop, Unity.
